MARK WEISER CALLS FOR LOCAL CONTROL AND TRANSPARENCY ON PROPOSED DATA CENTER DEVELOPMENT IN KANSAS
OSAGE CITY, KS — Mark Weiser, candidate for the Kansas House of Representatives in District 76, today called for greater transparency, local control, and protection of agricultural resources as discussions continue regarding the development of large-scale data centers in Kansas.
"As I travel throughout District 76, I am hearing growing concerns from citizens regarding the potential impact of large-scale data centers on our rural communities," said Weiser. "Kansas should welcome responsible economic development, but that development must serve the interests of Kansas families, farmers, ranchers, and small businesses first."
Weiser stated that citizens deserve clear and complete information about any proposed data center project, including expected water consumption, electrical demand, impacts on agricultural land, tax incentives, infrastructure costs, and the number of permanent jobs to be created.
"District 76 is built upon agriculture, hard work, and strong rural communities," Weiser said. "Our farmland, water resources, and rural way of life are among our most valuable assets. Before any major development project moves forward, local citizens deserve a meaningful voice in the process and a full understanding of how their communities may be affected."
Weiser emphasized that taxpayers should not be expected to subsidize large corporate projects without clear and measurable benefits to local communities.
"I support economic growth and job creation," Weiser added. "However, any project receiving public incentives must demonstrate a real return on investment for Kansas taxpayers and must not place an unfair burden on local infrastructure, utility customers, or agricultural producers."
Weiser pledged that if elected, he would work to ensure transparency, accountability, and local input on major development projects affecting District 76 and rural Kansas.
"The people who live, work, farm, and raise their families in District 76 deserve to be heard," said Weiser. "As your representative, I will stand for local control, responsible economic development, protection of private property rights, and preservation of our agricultural heritage."
